Brazilian performers to take over capital during Olympics

The streets of London will be awash with the bright, beautiful colours of Brazil as part of collaborations between Rio and London-based artists/performers.

Event Magazine reports that more than 30 artists, poets, dancers, DJs and more from Rio de Janeiro will join forces with counterparts from London, in order to showcase the best of Brazil during the London 2012 Olympics.

Streets and event venues across London will be transformed by Rio Occupation London, a three-day celebration of what is great about the country. Even venues outside of the celebration area have been encouraged to dress up for the event to showcase the best of Brazil.

Carnival collaborations, samba musicians, Group Galpao and an arts festivals are just some of the events which lay in wait during the Brazilian’s programme, according to london2012.com.

Adriana Rattes, the secretary of state for culture of Rio de Janeiro, commented on the festival: “The London 2012 Festival and Rio Occupation London – which the State Culture Secretariat has programmed in partnership with Locog – will strengthen Rio de Janeiro’s international cultural relations, promote a dynamic, attractive and contemporary image of the State of Rio, and create a platform on the world for the best work of artists emerging in Rio.”
