Britain to promote its event venues on a world stage

Britain is set to promote its top tourism and event venues on a world stage, as national tourism board VisitBritain is to attend an international trade show next year.

Representatives from the UK travel and events industry will join VisitBritain in attending the trade event at the Leela Palace Hotel in Bangalore, India during May 2011. Destination Britain and Ireland 2011 (DEBI) will allow experts with experience in running top conference centres and function venues to meet important decision makers and stakeholders from across the world.

Industry figures from the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Australian regions are expected to attend the international event, with the UK hoping to secure a position as the top destination for event hosting.

According to Sify.com, the event could generate around £10 million of investment into the UK events sector, with more than 70 corporate companies including Selfridges also attending.

Jeremy Hunt, secretary of state for culture, Olympics, media and sport, commented on the event, telling Meetpie: ”Holding one of its largest events in Bangalore next year not only will this inspire more people to visit our shores, but it will also lead to an increase in business for all those within the UK tourism industry who are taking part.”
