Lady Gaga has announced that she is to be legally ordained in order to officiate at a friend’s wedding.
The flamboyant star, cited by popdash.com, explained how she had been asked to officiate at a friend’s wedding – now that New York has at last made same-sex marriages legal.
“My yoga instructor Trisha, a lesbian has lived with her partner for years now and they have a beautiful daughter. They asked me to marry them. So, yes, I’m going to do it,” Gaga said.
“It’s their private wedding and they’re very proud of it. They’ve waited a long time to legitimise their love.”
Whether or not Lady Gaga will be involved in making any preparations for the nuptials like dress shopping, choosing a wedding reception venue or coordinating the music, is not clear.
A well-known gay rights supporter, Lady Gaga was delighted by New York’s newly enlightened attitude. She was quoted by The Belfast Telegraph, enthusing: “As an activist, it’s always about being positive and honouring and being about the small steps we’re taking towards equality.
“I’m excited about the things that are happening and I’m going to continue to band together with all my friends and with my generation to continue to fight for our rights.”
