London is named as the UK’s best tourist destination, beating Edinburgh and Torquay to the top spot.
According to dailymail.co.uk, the capital is being recognised as part of the TripAdvisor 2014 Travellers’ Choice awards. Gordon Innes, the chief executive of London & Partners, says London is continuing to benefit from hosting the Olympics in 2012.
“We’re delighted that London has again been recognised by millions as one of the best places on earth to come and visit,” he states. “During the last year we’ve seen record numbers of visitors to the capital, who have enjoyed everything our great city has to offer.”
This is of course great news for London businesses, as they will all be benefiting from the increased tourist numbers, from both the UK and abroad.
In fact, London is also the third top tourist destination in the world, behind Istanbul and Rome. It’s a similar story for the top ten European destinations too, as Istanbul, Rome and London all take the top three spaces here too, reports freshbusinessthinking.com.
James Kay, a spokesperson for TripAdvisor, says the awards are judged on the basis of millions of traveller reviews. He adds that although events such as the birth of the royal baby help boost London’s profile, the city has a long-lasting appeal, which is why tourists continue to visit again and again.
