One million requests for Paralympics tickets

Over one million people have applied for tickets to the Paralympic Games, Ft.com has confirmed.

Although this is good news for the games’ organisers, the stiff competition may leave hopefuls disappointed. However they could consider hiring function venues in order to make their own event out of the competition.

The London Organising committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) confirmed the news, stating that some 1.1 million applications had been received. Just under half of the entire event’s ticket sessions would be over subscribed with this amount of requests.

LOCOG’s chief executive, Paul Deighton, said of the overwhelming demand: “The UK’s love of sport and support for the Paralympic movement shows that they have taken the games to their heart.” He added that LOCOG was “absolutely delighted”, according to Guardian.co.uk.

Furthermore, Sir Phillip Craven (president of the International Paralympic Committee) claimed he “could not be more thrilled” about the news.

“To have over a million tickets applied for 11 months out from the games is unprecedented and underlines the growing excitement for what will be a tremendous event,” he added.

More tickets are due to go on sale for the games in December, so those who miss out this time may be able to secure tickets to their favourite event later in the year.
