TOWIE scoops audience award at Baftas

Stars of the reality TV show The Only Way Is Essex stole the show at last night’s BAFTAs by taking home the prized audience award, the Daily Mail reports.

According to the paper, cast members Amy Childs, Joey Essex and Sam Faiers were quick to celebrate their win – with Amy Childs looking a little worse for wear after being snapped by paparazzi.

But surprisingly the troupe didn’t continue to indulge in one of the late night party venues London has on offer. Instead they opted for an early night as Amy Childs and Samantha Faiers get ready to fly to Spain today.

Sam wrote on her Twitter page this morning: “On way to airport with @MissAmyChlds!! No better way to start out holiday after winning a bafta! Xxx”

After winning the prize, she tweeted last night: “Thanku so so much to everyone who voted!! Love u all! Now time for bed! Up so early! Mwah so so happy.”

The ITV show fended off competition from Downton Abbey, Sherlock, Miranda, Big Fat Gypsy Weddings and The Killing to win the prestigious YouTube Audience prize as voted for by the public.

According to BBC News, Sherlock took home two prizes. One for best drama series and the other for best supporting actor awarded to Martin Freeman, for his portrayal of Watson in the Sherlock Holmes drama series.

Graham Norton, Eastenders and Jo Brand also took home awards, and Sir Trevor McDonald was honoured with an Academy Fellowship at the Baftas for his “outstanding and exceptional contribution” to television.
