The Event Managers Trust Fund - as featured in The London & UK Datebook, Feb 2008
FIVE years ago I walked out of The Brewery swearing I would never take an event there because when I had tried to do a site visit the experience had been so bad I had serious doubts about the venue’s ability to deliver. However, last year I took the Association for Project Management (APM) to that very venue taking over all three floors for the two day Annual Project Management Conference and Awards. So why the change of heart? The answer is simple. Recommendation from people I trust that the change of staff had led to a change of attitude. When set the task of finding a venue for APM that could accommodate a conference with three plenary sessions, members lounges, exhibition space and was big enough to seat 550 guests for an awards ceremony I asked Show Presentation Services – the production company that has supplied Amanda Rayner Images for 13 years – for their suggestions. SPS know that what I am looking for on behalf of my clients is not just a great looking venue but one where staff are attentive, detail matters and there is a team in place who, during my tenancy will treat me, my client and my team – of which the crew is an integral part – with equal courtesy and attention. I did a site visit. This time round the first impression was good and staff attitude had indeed changed. James Varah became my banqueting manager and once again I was reminded just how much our industry is people based. Good service comes from good people. By the time the Conference and Awards took place he knew as much about my event, and its goals, as I did. Read More
