Boxer Amir Khan has held a party to celebrate his engagement and ended up inviting 1,000 people, reported The Bolton News.
This included celebrities such as Bolton Wanderers footballer Kevin Davies, England cricketer Sajid Mahmood and fellow boxer Ricky Hatton, who gathered together for the moment Khan officially gave 20-year-old American Pakistani Faryal Makhdoom a £100,000 engagement ring.
The 25-year-old sports star pulled out all the stops to impress his bride-to-be, including arriving in a pair of Rolls Royces and kicking off the bash with fireworks.
Haroon Khan, Amir’s brother, suggested that there has not been much said about when the pair will tie the knot, so it may be some time before they start checking out function venues for the event.
“I think he just couldn’t wait for this because this is what he has always wanted. I’ve no idea when the wedding will be, maybe in a year or two years – I don’t know – but we are really looking forward to this engagement,” said Haroon, who is also a boxer and will represent Pakistan at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
The Sun estimated that Amir spent about £150,000 on the engagement party, which saw the happy couple and their parents sitting on white sofas on a stage for the duration of the night.
Ms Makhdoom, who is a student, told the newspaper that she actually found it very hard to understand her fiancé when they first met, as his Bolton accent was so different to the way people spoke in London.
