Event industry professionals and MP’s have joined together to promote the industry as one of the main drivers of the economy.
Meeting last week at the House of Commons, 150 event figures and 43 MP’s discussed the government extending more support to the conference and event industry, in a bid to further bolster the economy.
At the special reception, MP’s were keen to show their support by forming a cross-party parliamentary group to expand the events sector in Whitehall and beyond.
The news has been welcomed by those running event spaces and exhibition venues in London and across the country who are already seeing strong growth figures in anticipation of large scale events such as the Olympic games.
Visit Britain chief executive Sandie Dawe spoke at the event and was cited in Event Magazine as saying about the proposed support schemes: ”The event industry is growing very rapidly and it is going to be essential to the prosperity of the country’s economy.”
Also speaking at the special event was MP Don Foster and BVEP chair Micheal Hirst who outlined additional tools the government could use to further boost the successful events sector. The event marked the 10th Birthday of the BVEP, whose main aim is to support the event industry in becoming a world leader.
