Experts reveal 2013 wedding trends

Colourful dresses and pretty birds are set to dominate the wedding scene, given expert predictions for 2013.

With a new year just around the corner, many women will be heralding 2013 as they year they can really start some serious planning for their weddings. Fortunately, the great and good are out in force, forecasting the trends which will be seen up the aisle and throughout the wedding reception venue in the coming twelve months.

Wedding expert Kate Thompson has picked out some stunning and not bank-breaking blooms for Spring nuptials. Among the many varieties she listed for are agapanthus, lisinathus, phlox, cheery blossom, the perrential rose and the humble carnation. Many of the flowers are soft pastel shades, perfect for the still-favoured vintage affair.

In terms of dresses, creative director Matthew David Hopkins believes that colour on the bridal gown – a la Jessica Biel – “will surely become a trend”. He told that “breaking the rules” will become all the rage and may also seep into groomswear, for the very bravest. Expect to see bridesmaids in Pantone’s colour of the year 2013, emerald.

Hopkins adds that photo opportunities will be the big reception craze of 2013. Expanding on this year’s popular notion of hiring a photo booth, the ‘photo op’ comprises a space where guests can take their own picture via remote control. “Our guests are loving it”, he said.

For a slight twist on a vintage theme, the team at predict the use of birds to grow. Not live birds, but tiny adornments on cakes, bird-print invitations and feathery headpieces.
