A group of British organisations is heading to Russia as part of a VisitBritain plan, reports bighospitality.co.uk. The mission is to increase the number of Russian visitors to Britain by 2020.
The Destination Britain event is set to involve seminars and business appointments in a bid to gain insight into how the big-spending Russian market can best be taken advantage of.
2012 was shown to be successful for the tourism industry and a 75 per cent increase in the amount of Russian visitors is hoped to be achieved. Function venues could see an increase in visitors if the mission is successful.
Patricia Yates, the director of strategy and communications for VisitBritain said: “It’s our ambition to welcome 370,000 Russian visitors a year by 2020. This mission will help foster relations with key trade who can help us to achieve that goal, putting British businesses in front of decision makers and generating growth from what is a traditionally high-spending market.”
Breakingtravelnews.com reported that research had showed two-thirds of Russians who watched the London Olympic Games on television now want to come to the UK for their next holiday. A Nations Brand Index (NBI) survey of the top 50 nations worldwide discovered that Russians have a positive perception of the UK and that perception is increasing.
