Updates regarding the new high speed rail link between London and the North have been welcomed by members of the events industry.
The £32 billion HS2 link will cut journey times between London, Birmingham Manchester and Leeds dramatically, thanks to trains that can travel in excess of 200mph, guardian.co.uk reports.
It will see journey times between Birmingham and London reduced from just under an hour and a half to 49 minutes, whilst those travelling from the capital to Manchester will cut their journey by almost half, to one hour eight minutes. London to Leeds, meanwhile, will take one hour 22 minutes, instead of the current two hours 12 minutes.
Such slashes in journey times look set to benefit the event industry and venues located across London, as Britons will be able to access them with much more ease.
Chief executive of Marketing Manchester, Andrew Stokes, told meetpie.com of the development: “HS2 is an exciting project for the UK and I am delighted that Greater Manchester will boast not one, but two HS2 stations.
“Whilst HS2 is truly in a league of its own, previous developments of this nature – such as the introduction of tilting Pendolino trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Euston – have proved a great asset to the city. HS2 would emulate this but on a much bigger scale.”
