Inbound visitors to top 30 million in 2011

An extra 300,000 visitors are expected to visit Britain during 2011, taking inbound traveller figures to 30 million.

The figures are the latest predictions by tourism agency Visit Britain who estimate that the amount spent in the UK by inbound visitors is to increase by 2 per cent to £17.2bn next year.

Big events such as the Royal Wedding, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympic and Paralympic Games 2012, will help bring Britain to the world’s attention.

The number of inbound business trips is also expected to grow, which will provide a welcome boost to business for those with conference and meeting venues. With more people coming to the UK on business trips, conference centres and other business venues will be able to regain some of the ground lost due to the economic crisis.

Sandie Dawe chief executive of Visit Britain told Meetpie: “We are looking forward to an exciting and challenging 2011. We plan to roll out our new campaign this spring with our industry partners, inviting the world to visit Britain. Our aim is to get Britain on the radar of those who have never travelled here and also to reinvigorate our appeal in core markets such as the USA and near Europe.”
