An increasing amount of newlyweds are ditching cheesy music from their wedding reception playlists, according to a new study.
A report by music-sharing service Spotify, which studied the tracks from over 78,000 thousand wedding playlists, has indicated that brides and grooms are becoming keener to throw a cool and sexy reception.
Traditionally cheesy wedding songs from the likes of Lulu, The Beatles and Whitney Houston are no longer anywhere near the most commonly played wedding songs.
According to thesun.co.uk, they have been replaced by modern favourites from bands like the Black Eyed Peas, Kings of Leon and The Killers. ‘I Gotta Feeling’ by The Black Eyed Peas was named as the song most likely to be heard at a typical wedding reception venue.
Speaking to dailystar.co.uk, celebrity DJ Sam Young claimed that last year’s Royal Wedding might have had a significant impact on wedding playlists.
He said: “After Kate and William got married, weddings are cool again. Apparently Prince Harry created their playlist and couples are desperate to recreate that buzz. They are more concerned with throwing the ultimate party than slow-dancing the night away.”
Spotify have published the top 20 most popular wedding songs based on their study. Although the list features plenty of modern favourites from the likes of Beyonce, Outkast and Adele, there was still room for classic wedding anthems from Stevie Wonder and Abba in the list.
