Anyone celebrating the New Year in London tonight will be able to access public transport for free.
London’s overground, underground, DLR and tram network will all be free from 23.45 tonight until 04.30 on January 1.
The generous offer is sponsored by Diageo and means that Brits will be able to enjoy the party venues London has to offer without worrying about an expensive journey home.
In an interview with rail.co, London’s transport commissioner Peter Hendy urged everyone celebrating in London to make sure their journey home was safe.
He said: “2012 has been a fantastic year for London and I am sure that many people will be out in the capital celebrating it in style. Passengers travelling on New Year’s Eve should make sure they plan ahead for their journeys home.
“They can either make use of the free travel being provided on our services sponsored by Diageo, or if taking a taxi should make sure it is a black cab or a pre-booked minicab.”
According to bbc.co.uk, hundreds of thousands of people are expected to line the Thames to witness a midnight fireworks display. Many of the roads in Central London will be closed off due to the large crowds.
