Addressing sustainability initiatives in the events sector is a key objective for a new industry working group which has brought venues, organisers and suppliers as one, reports Event Magazine.
Reducing the impact of events and exhibitions was a talking point when members of the Association of Event Venues (AEV), Association of Event Organisers (AEO) and the Event Supplier and Services Association (ESSA) met together for the first time last month.
The group will continue to focus on practical and procedural steps the industry can take as a collective to reduce landfill waste and energy use.
Mirabelle Chatterjee, operations director at UBM Live Group, commented: “The working group gives us a way that we can work together and learn from each other to improve our approaches and practices. We can then pass the message within our companies and to members of the three associations.”
For example, WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme), who’s mission is to “accelerate resource efficiency according to wrap.org.uk, is looking to speak to firms through the working group about its latest initiative, a “roadmap to zero waste”. Via the group, WRAP can gather feedback about the scheme, as well as possible contributions.
Furthermore, Chris Skeith, AEV and ESSA director believes the groups ambition is to “facilitate the sharing of best practice to improve sustainability within member businesses and across the sector.”
