Wines that are good to the planet (and to its people)
Incorporating sustainable wines into your event not only promotes environmental stewardship and advocates for health and social benefits but also adds a touch of refined awareness that enhances the entire experience for your guests while reducing your event's carbon footprint.
To whet your whistle, we've carefully chosen a selection of exceptional wines, featuring handpicked vintages from renowned and emerging wine regions. Our focus is on wines produced using organic methods, vegan options, and the craftsmanship of female winemakers.
Let's understand what sustainable wines encompass.
What are sustainable wines?
Sustainable wines are produced with methods that minimize harm to the environment. This includes practices like organic farming, which avoids synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, and biodynamic methods that promote biodiversity and soil health. By selecting sustainable wines, you are supporting vineyards that prioritise the Earth's wellbeing.
What are organic wines?
Organic wine is made from grapes that have been grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or chemical fertilizers. The focus is on maintaining a balanced ecosystem in the vineyard, fostering soil health, and working with nature rather than trying to control it with artificial substances. Organic viticulture emphasizes the use of natural methods and substances, with the aim of preserving the environment and producing grapes that more authentically reflect the terroir in which they are grown.
What are vegan wines?
Vegan wine is produced without using any animal-derived products during the winemaking process. Although it may seem that all wines would naturally be vegan, many winemakers employ animal-based substances, known as fining agents, to clarify and stabilize the wine before bottling. vegan wines utilize alternative fining agents or methods that are either plant-based or synthetic.
What are biodynamic wines?
Biodynamic wine takes organic farming principles a step further by following a holistic, ecological, and ethical approach to viticulture that considers the vineyard as an interconnected living system. This method of wine production is based on the principles and philosophy of Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner, who introduced biodynamic agriculture in the 1920s.
The Retreat’s wine selection
The Brewery on Chiswell Street works with Liberty Wines, the UK’s only certified Carbon Neutral Plus wine importer. Daryl Sullivan, Senior Sales Manager at Liberty Wines explains “We reduce our emissions as much as possible and, for any emissions that cannot be eliminated entirely, we offset them through approved programs. This includes restoring seagrasses in Scotland, which are more effective at capturing carbon than rainforests. As a result, transporting wines from our winery, whether in Sussex or South Africa, to your event at The Brewery actually removes more carbon than it produces”.

Our chef and wine connoisseurs at The Brewery have collaborated closely with Liberty Wines to present you with a 100% sustainable wine selection for your Summer Party. Below is the list of our sustainable wines for 2026!

It is crisp and elegant with a lovely texture and long finish.

Drawing inspiration from Chablis, the Chardonnay is unoaked and offers an expression defined by purity and precision. The Viognier is harvested in the early morning to retain its delicate aromatics, before being vinified in stainless steel with no malolactic fermentation. The result is a fresh, fruit-driven Viognier true to the variety's flavours and texture. Fermented in stainless steel, the Pinot Noir is ruby red with ripe cherry and strawberry aromas on the nose and supple, velvety tannins on the palate.
